How to Code HTML Email Newsletters - part 2 - Software for creating HTML email

Software for creating HTML email

There are a lot of editors available you can use. Here are a few tools you can use to create HTML email and websites:

  • Codetch (WYSIWYG editor / free / Firefox extension)

  • Real-time HTML Editor (online)

  • PSPad (universal editor, alternative for UltraEdit / free)

  • Notepad++ (source code editor / free)

  • NVU (open source WYSIWYG editor / free)

  • Macromedia Dreamweaver (WYSIWYG editor / not free)

  • For uploading your files you can use FileZilla.

Don’t use Microsoft Word to create HTML pages or HTML email

The reason is Word will write a whole lot of garbage when you create HTML pages with it. For example, I created a HTML page in Word and only put this line of text in it: “Don’t use Word to create HTML files”. Then I saved it as a HTML file. Show/Hide the HTML that Word 2003 created.

Other versions of Word also create garbage. But all you need is:

<p>Don't use Word to create HTML files</p>

    Don’t copy/paste from Microsoft Word

Word uses a different kind of formatting of the text than for example Notepad, Notepad++, PSPad and Dreamweaver. These programs all work in text mode without formatting.

How to Reduce Spam in Your Inbox and Enhance Your Email Security

Spam is the internet’s equivalent of junk mail. Spam is defined as an e-mail message sent to people without their consent or permission. Addresses of recipients are often harvested from Usenet postings or web pages, obtained from databases, or simply guessed by using common names and domains.

Spam is sent to promote practically any product or service ranging from “Adult” products to logo design for websites. It is also used by hackers to spread viruses or links to dangerous websites used to gather your personal information like credit card details or passwords for sites like Ebay or PayPal. To the average user these messages appear genuine. Even the link has a genuine looking domain name. This technique is known as “Phishing.”

Here are some smart strategies and tips you can employ now to start reducing Spam and boost your email security.

    - Configure your anti virus software to automatically scan your incoming email for viruses. Email is still widely used to distribute malicious software. Make sure you keep your anti virus software definitions up to date.

    - If you are someone that frequently signs up for “freebies” or other stuff on the internet start using a separate e-mail account just for this purpose. Accounts from providers like Yahoo!, Hotmail, and Google’s Gmail all come with generous storage as standard.

    - If sites don’t accept free e-mail address from the services listed above then use a free disposable email service like "Sneakemail."

    - If you are posting your email to a blog or your website then submit it in a way that is only recognizable to a human. For example if your email is johndoe@hotmail.com then post it as “johndoe at hotmail.com”.

    - Never open a message from an address you do not recognize – always delete it straight away. This is especially so if there is an attachment. Never reply to a message as this only confirms the email address is “live” to the spammers.

    - If you get an official looking message from your bank or Ebay or another site you are not sure is genuine here is what you do. Instead of clicking on the link embedded in the mail log on to the site normally via your browser. If there are any genuine serious problems you should get a message when you log on. Alternatively contact the site’s customer service via the phone if possible.

    - Consider using standalone spam filtering software. This software analyses your email for common characteristics of spam email including words like “click” or “teens.” It also compares senders’ emails against a “Friends List.”

Richard Rogers runs a number of computer-related sites offering Spyware Remover and Anti Virus Software help.

Way to Block Spam - Bayesian Filter to Fight Back Spammers

The most prolific and path breaking innovation of last century had been the developments in the communication field. It literally changed the business working, product marketing, support services and most importantly, the advertisement campaigns.

But just like all goods things comes with a price, so was the communication. It brought in the problems of Spam Emails. Automated mailers with mass mailing capabilities, growing marketing dependencies on this tool have seen the large losses in terms of time and money.

There have been many ways of targeting spam mails like blacklisted domains, banned IPs, words in subject and many more. The spammers have always found out a way to change their identity. But here is the catch. The spammers are being paid to send the message. They can change their Domains, IPs, subject lines, but how much they can play with the contents? And that’s where content based filtering comes into focus. Now we can understand that by targeting and focusing on message body, there is a better chance of filtering spam emails.

Apart from the usual spam emails, the new menace has been created by the "phishing emails" targeting primarily eBay and PayPal accounts. These emails come as a "Last Warning", "Attention Required", "Password Change Required" or "Your account is suspended" among many more. These mails appear to have come from eBay or PayPal and provide a link to their own page.

These pages are designed just like the original pages and the unsuspecting user ends up providing his/her sensitive information like username/password or Credit Card Information to these duplicate pages. Here I would like to add one piece of advice to all users that you should always see where the link is taking you by seeing the tool tip and then if sure, follow the link.

The role of content in marking the mail spam or not spam has been achieved using the Bayesian filter. Together with the Black List of spammers and White list of trusted emails ids, is the best technique to counter the spam. The most interesting fact is that Spam Filter with Bayesian algorithm is a self learning filter. The more you use, the more secure you shall be within a matter of few days.

The spam filter integrate easily with popular emails clients such MS outlook and Outlook Express. With due course, up to 98% of the spam mails can be stopped from entering your Inbox. The Spam Filter for Outlook Express and Spam Filter for Microsoft Outlook, with the features of White List/Black List and properly used Bayesian Algorithm will help prevent spam mails, phishing mails and fraud mails from bothering you further.

There has been a considerable increase in the spam mails containing Non English Characters also. The Bayesian Algorithm based Spam Filter also must have the capability to parse non English characters and mark as spam mail.

To get rid of continuous spam mails, phishing mails, fraud mails and Non-English mails, you might like to try Official Spam Filter for Outlook Express 1.2 and Official Spam Filter for Microsoft Outlook 1.2. Official Spam Filter has the capability to seamlessly integrate with MS Outlook and Outlook Express.

Pop-up ads are certainly great annoyances that a user comes across while surfing the Internet. Many websites use pop-ups for advertisement. While some banners simply disappear, others seem to persist. Adware is often responsible for this persistence. Adware is software that tracks the user’s surfing patterns and displays pop-ups. Since it spies on the user’s keystrokes, this software is often grouped with spyware. Numerous security software companies provide adware spyware removal tools to deal with the annoying advertisement windows. A standard adware spyware removal tool not only removes adware and spyware, but also deals with many other forms of malicious software that work in the background without the user’s knowledge. Many adware spyware removal tools provide protection from data-mining, aggressive advertising, trojans, browser hijackers, and unwanted dialers.

Adware spyware removal tools are also available for free, usually on Web sites of security software companies. Adware spyware removal tools are sometimes made available as part of anti-virus software packages. The installation process is simple, requiring just a few clicks. Apart from removing adware, these tools also monitor the network to prevent more adware from entering the computer. Adware spyware removal tools, however, do not deal with the problem of viruses.

Adware spyware removal tools perform a variety of functions. They scan all fixed and removable drives, memory, and repair the windows registry. Most tools use the Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology to detect and kill malignant software. Aggressive spyware and malicious contents are removed. Many adware spyware removal tools provide full quarantine support. They protect against bandwidth stealing programs and enhance your computer’s overall performance. Passwords, credit card numbers, and other vulnerable data are made secure. Fake adware spyware removal tools can do more harm than good. Adware Filters

Many people wonder what adware is, how it gets into their computer systems, and what its effects are. If you are an Internet user, your computer is most likely to have been infected by an adware program. Furthermore, if you have downloaded freeware or shareware from the Internet, it is almost certain that you already have adware installed on your computer.

These forms of adware are generally harmless and are sometimes required for certain programs to run. However, adware can also include spyware components, which make it a dangerous presence on your computer.

Without help, there is no way for you to prevent the installation of adware n your computer. Some older antivirus programs do not detect the presence of adware simply because they do not consider them a virus or worm. You will need newer antivirus programs to specifically target adware and spyware. Today, there are also adware filters available for sale or download.

Adware filters are essential to computer security. They automatically remove programs that attempt to install adware into your computer. They also block the download of programs that contain adware.

Some Internet service providers offer adware protection to their customers by providing them with a built-in adware filter, which is activated when the user is browsing the Internet. However, to take advantage of these filters, customers will need to upgrade their anti-adware programs and keep their anti-adware signatures updated.

Most adware cannot be installed without your permission. However, certain software may trick you into clicking a link that will download adware to your computer. Links that install these adware and spyware programs can be very misleading, so you have to be extra attentive around them. The only way to prevent infecting your computer with adware is to install software from trusted sources or those you know to be adware-free.

    Adware Protection

Over the years, computer programs have evolved from being productive to being malicious. Malicious software programs are rampant these days; some of these are computer viruses, spam, spyware, and adware. Spyware and adware are both classified under malware, which means they are malicious software that changes system and registry settings of the operating system which in turn causes the computer to be unstable.

Adware in its basic form is a program that shows advertisements on your computer monitor. Once a computer gets affected by adware, windows showing advertisements may popup on the display even if the computer is disconnected from the Internet. Aside from displaying popup windows, adware can also add website shortcut links to a webpage browser's favorites folder and change the setting of your browser's homepage. Adware also redirects search engine search results to other websites, most often to websites that earn income out of the number of clicks or hits they gather.

Adware is usually installed on a computer system through false pretenses. Adware websites trick users into clicking links that will install the adware program onto their systems. Similarly, adware can also be installed through freeware and bundled software, among these are free FTP or file sharing programs. Users are normally eager to use free software, which made combining adware with freeware software a likely ""package.""

Adware takes advantage of the gullibility of users when it comes to using free things from the Internet. The most basic protection against adware would be for users to make sure the software they are planning to install comes from a credible source and does not include adware. Synonymously, users are advised to visit only trusted websites. When faced with a dialog box or a popup window during software installation or upon visiting a website, users are advised to read carefully before clicking on the ""OK"" or ""Yes"" option.

Aside from practicing safe web surfing, users may protect their computer systems by making sure the operating system is patched up or updated. Another solution would be to download and install ""Pop-up Blockers"" to stop popup advertisements from showing on the display. Antivirus software also provides protection against adware.

    Spyware Remover

When your computer starts slowing down, it can indicate the presence of spyware that is quietly working in the background. Spyware are designed to search through your hard drive and send information to its creator, such as the software you have installed, your e-mail list, the Web sites you visit, login passwords, and credit card numbers. Cyber criminals can misuse these vital pieces of private information, which is why it is important to remove spyware from computers.

Spyware can make a computer too slow and unstable for normal functioning. A good spyware removal program can detect what slows down your computer and repair the problem. Spyware usually infects you computer from Web sites that you visit. It enters your computer through holes in your security system. Adware Removal Programs

There are many adware removal programs on the Internet; a search performed on one of the more popular software search engines using the keywords "Adware Remover" found about 180 matches. The results, however, vary from one another in terms of focus and function. Most of the titles either had adware by itself or adware and spyware together, while other titles had the words firewall, guard, and privacy.

Adware and spyware removers are generally programs that scan the computer system for adware, spyware, malware, or programs that are classified as "Pests," and remove them from the system. Although most anti-virus software are also able to detect, and to an extent, remove adware, spyware, Trojan horses, bots, keyloggers, and other malicious software, it should be noted that anti-spyware companies are dedicated and focused on dealing with "Pests," not viruses. This makes anti-spyware programs a better choice for removing adware.

Personal firewalls do not really remove adware from the system but are able to help prevent an adware program from reactivating itself after it is "removed" by an anti-spyware program. Most adware use resuscitators to ensure that it remains active in the system no matter how many attempts are made to delete it. This is made possible through resuscitators by deploying another program that will attempt to download another copy of the adware into a system. By using personal firewalls, a computer user can assign which programs may or may not access the Internet, therefore making it impossible for resuscitators to perform their tasks.

There are also Internet security programs that allow users to set rules for Internet usage on a system. Some examples of their features are blocking harmful websites, restricting Internet access time, and defining the types of files that may be downloaded into the system.

While there are a lot of programs designed to remove adware from a computer system, there are also a lot of programs that focus on prevention. No matter how good anti-spyware software may be, there are still a lot of adware that cannot be automatically removed from the system, thus requiring the user to perform manual steps involving editing the system registry to get rid of adware.
